Herniated Discs: Causes, Symptoms, and Chiropractic Relief

A herniated disc can cause pain, numbness, or weakness. Learn how chiropractic care offers non-surgical relief for this common spinal issue.

A herniated disc, also called a slipped or bulging disc, occurs when the soft inner gel of a spinal disc leaks through a weakened area in the outer layer. This can put pressure on nearby nerves, leading to pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness.

This condition often arises from poor posture, trauma, lifting injuries, or age-related disc degeneration. The most commonly affected areas are the lower back (lumbar spine) and neck (cervical spine).

Chiropractic care offers a non-surgical, drug-free solution to managing disc issues. At State College Family Chiropractic Center, we use targeted adjustments, flexion-distraction therapy, and soft tissue work to relieve pressure, restore spinal motion, and support the body’s healing process.

Early treatment can prevent further nerve damage and avoid invasive procedures.
